In this study, a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial was carried out to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sildenafil (Viagra) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in patients with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 30 kg/m2.
The primary objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of sildenafil in patients with a BMI of more than 30 kg/m2 with an initial dose of 100 mg of sildenafil (Viagra) in a single dose of 30 mg.
The secondary objectives were to compare the efficacy of sildenafil and placebo in different doses of sildenafil in the treatment of ED, and to determine the differences in the side effects of the other agents in the study.
This study was a single-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, double-dummy, multicenter, open-label, double-centre, phase 2 study. Patients with ED of the preceding 5 months were recruited after the enrollment date of 4 weeks. The study was performed in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and the study protocol was approved by the ethics committee of the hospital.
The study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine of Xianjie University (Jinan), from January 2010 to December 2015.
